Pulse Berlin
Pulse is a Berlin-based project that started more than a decade ago when an international group of college students, writers, designers, artists, and journalists gathered together with the dream of creating a forum for discussion that would connect our diverse countries and disciplines. We wanted to engage in serious thought together and do so from a place of inspiration rather than obligation.
Our mission statement when we stared was as follows…
Our hope is that Pulse will be a discussion about the activity that happens in the places between definitions. We live in a world where problems are no longer localized: issues in every discipline exceed the limits of that discipline and need illumination from many others, as do the problems of nations and cultures. Pulse Berlin is about opening new conversations between nations, cultures, and disciplines. We believe it is this interplay that ultimately leads to positive forms of change.
…Over the past ten years, even as the project has evolved and changed, paused and restarted, Pulse has remained an open community sharing and discussing the questions, challenges and comforts that fill our hearts and thoughts. The magazine we print is more of an art object than a commercial enterprise. And the wider project is unabashedly idealistic in its hope to transcend geographical, social, and intellectual borders. The celebrated and influential voices gathered here (and in the printed magazines) have taught, inspired and instigated us over the years. Thank you to everyone who has participated and kept this project thriving. Working together with you has opened conversations that have shaped our lives and connected us across time zones, lifestyles, and beliefs. And the discussion continues…
